REVIEW: The Originals Always and Forever – Series Premiere of The Vampire Diaries Spin-Off Series – Starring Joseph Morgan, Phoebe Tonkin, & Daniella Pineda

Everyone’s favorite hybrid (werewolf/vampire) and his family of Original vampires return to New Orleans in the series premiere of Vampire Diaries spin-off, The Originals. If you haven’t seen the premiere episode, ‘Always and Forever’ yet then read no further and consider this your official SPOILER ALERT!

If you’ve watched every episode of The Vampire Diaries (or even just last season’s “backdoor pilot” titled The Originals) then you were probably as bored as I was during ‘Always and Forever’. This new pilot mostly included scenes taken from the first pilot and flashbacks from older episodes of The Vampire Diaries (those were used to explain how this family is in fact “the original family”).

So, for those who somehow missed it. Here’s what’s up:

Klaus (played by Joseph Morgan) was lured back to New Orleans by a bunch of witches who need his help to battle the current reigning vampire, Marcel (played by Charles Michael Davis) – who happens to be Klaus’ protégé. Marcel has removed all werewolves from New Orleans (lets assume that they’ll return if the show gets a second season) and outlawed all practice of magic… thus making witches boring.

You may be asking, “How was Klaus lured?” (Or you’ve already left this article because it’s as boring as this episode was.) What an excellent question! Katherine (Nina Dobrev) warned Klaus that a witch named Jane-Anne (who was murdered in the first pilot by Marcel for practicing witchcraft) had some plot against him or something. Klaus’ brother Elijah (played by Daniel Gilles) follows him to New Orleans only discovers that Jane-Anne’s sister Sophie, played by the amazing and beautiful Daniella Pineda, is leading a group of witches in the revolution AND she’s got the gift of “pregancy-testing” – That’s right! Klaus has somehow knocked up Hayley, a slutty female werewolf played by Phoebe Tonkin.

Shock! Sophie and Hayley are bound together, thus any violence done to Sophie is done to Hayley. Shock! Elijah cares more about this baby than Klaus… actually, that’s not a shocking statement… it’s just a statement.

Aaaand that’s about where I stopped watching…. I hear something surprising actually happens in the final moments, but I’m not really sure I care.

Regardless, the entire season’s plot has been presented: Hayley’s pregnant with a mostly werewolf/ possibly partially vampire baby (will she and/or the child survive?); Marcel is a jackass (will the witches get rid of him?); will the Original family move to New Orleans and attempt to regain their throne (I feel like I can say yes, ’cause that’s the plot of this show).

What did YOU think of the new pilot of The Originals? How did you enjoy watching the same scenes in a different order? What do YOU think will happen to Hayley and the “baby” – Will you even keep watching???

Let me know if YOU think the show will get cancelled and don’t miss (or completely skip) new episodes of The Originals, Thursdays after The Vampire Diaries, only on The CW.
