As Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD concludes, so does the evolving love life of Daisy Johnson (fka Skye). Early on in the series, a slow-burn attraction between Daisy (played by Chloe Bennet) and her supervising officer at SHIELD, Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), blossomed. He then turned out to be a HYDRA traitor. This heartbreak continued to influence Daisy’s life throughout the series, but eventually led her into the arms of badboy medical school drop-out Lincoln Campbell (Luke Mitchell). He eventually wasn’t the right fit for her either. After a long hiatus from dating, Daisy became more self away and in the end it seemed that she was meant for a real gentleman, like Agent Sousa (Enver Gjokaj, reprising his role from the short-lived Marvel’s Agent Carter).
While many fans are aboard this ‘ship, others question how a relationship can be built this quickly – Souza was introduced in 7×03 Alien Commies from the Future. Bennet spoke to reporters about how this season’s Time Loop episode, 7×09 As I Have Always Been, allowed her feelings for him to grow organically. She gave credit to the writers for finding a away to give “Daisy time when there was no time to see how much he’s there for her.” She continues “[Souza] is stable, and so supportive, and so willing and understanding of who she is; That episode gave her, maybe too many times to realize that. [To realize] that she needs that kind of stability in her life, and that support… and it doesn’t hurt that he’s a strapping young man…”
‘Ship it or not, the writers absolutely did their best to gave this couple the most grounded connection they could within the limited number of episodes.
