REVIEW: Netflix's A Series of Unfortunate Events – The Reptile Room – Season 1 Episode 3 & Episode 4 – Review

The next chapter of the Series of Unfortunate Events series introduces a new appreciation for reptiles as well as a furthering the mystery of the secret symbol that may in fact belong to a secret society.

The children are sent to live with their Uncle Monty – played by the hilarious Aasif Mandvi – the man their parents designated in their will. Monty is a Herpetologist and has a large Reptile Room in his beautiful home. As the story goes, Count Olaf continues his attempt to steal the orphans’ fortune while Monty works to keep the children safe.

While I’m sure the story of these children trying to find a home is supposed to be the focus, the underlying mystery of the secret society, which their parents were clearly associated with, is much more interesting and I’d honestly rather we focus on that story. But what bugs me most about this story is the stupidity of the adults – repeatedly Mr Poe nearly gets the children killed. And as Lemony Snicket explains, there’s nothing more infuriating than being ignored due to age.

Regardless, the binge continues. As annoyed as I am by no one listening to these clearly clever children, and their constant underestimation, I’m more intrigued by the mystery of this repeating eye symbol and the society (Spies???) that goes along with it.
