SPECIAL: Animation is Film Festival, 2022 Opening Night Coverage

2022’s Animation Is Film Festival opened with a vibrant red carpet celebration, kicking off the festivities of the weekend and starting with honoring animation veteran and producer Ellen Goldsmith-Vein. Goldsmith-Vein has been in the film industry for a good while, and the opening of the carpet honored her work in animation and in promoting animation as an art form and a film medium. From there, the red carpet continued with directors, producers, actors, and all number of people involved in the animation industry, all of whom had films premiering or screening at the festival. Films screening at the festival and represented on the carpet included but were not limited to Oni: A Thunder God’s Tale, Luck, and Summer Ghost.

The red carpet also marked the premiere of Wendell & Wild, the new Netflix stop motion animated movie set to release on October 28th. Director and co-producer Henry Selick and co-producer and writer Jordan Peele came to celebrate the opening of the film, along with actor Keegan Michael Key, character designer and caricature artist Pablo Lobato, writer Clay McLeod Chapman, and producer and AIFF honoree Ellen Goldsmith-Vein.
