REVIEW: The Bad Guys

Dreamworks’ The Bad Guys, follows several reformed yet misunderstood criminal animals who attempt to become good, with some disastrous results along the way. Starring Sam Rockwell, Marc Maron, Craig Robinson, Awkwafina, and Anthony Ramos as the animal “Bad Guys” Wolf, Snake, Shark, Tarantula, and Piranha, respectively.
If you’re a fan of heist movies, con artists, and bad guys trying to be good guys, then this adorable animated film is for you. As someone who has seen every Ocean’s film multiple times, and watches both Leverage and Leverage: Redemption on repeat, The Bad Guys was practically made for me! While it’s still absolutely a children’s film, and the twists are not particularly surprising, this action-packed animated adventure is full of heart… and of course, plenty of fart jokes. With nods to quite a few iconic movies, as well as playful visual gags, The Bad Guys feels almost like a melding of Zootopia and Despicable Me.
Although questions about this animal-human hybrid world don’t get answered (specifically frustrating because in addition to sentient animals, some humans also keep animals as pets), the movie executed it’s enjoyable journey for all ages appreciate.
The Bad Guys is rated PG and opens in theaters May 22nd. Watch the trailer for The Bad Guys here.
