Meet Your New Neighbors!
In the recent trailer for season 2 of Only Murders in the Building, Hulu’s humorous hit murder-mystery series starring Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez, audiences were treated to an exciting sneak peek at some of the newest tenants of New York City’s prestigious, and fictional, Arconia apartments.
The equally funny and mysterious first season saw Martin, Short, and Gomez as Charles-Haden Savage, Oliver Putnam, and Mabel Mora, respectively, strangers who form an unlikely friendship stemming from their love of true crime podcasts. The trio originally joined forces to both launch their own podcast and solve the murder of Tim Kono (Justin Cihi), fellow Arconia tenant and Mabel’s estranged childhood friend. The season ultimately concluded with a cliffhanger finale. After ten episodes of hilarity and hijinks resulted in uncovering multiple crimes, including solving Tim Kono’s murder, the podcasting crew found themselves framed for a new murder. The new victim was Arconia board president, Bunny (Jayne Houdyshell).
Carnival Row alum Cara Delevingne is joining the cast in season 2 and the newly revealed promo provided viewers with a quick glimpse of Delevigne’s character, art world insider Alice, as well as comedian Amy Schumer, who is said to be guest starring as a version of herself. While it seems Delevigne’s Alice will be getting more directly embroiled with the main mystery of the season, Schumer’s level of involvement remains unclear. Based on the impressive celebrity cameos in the first season, including rockstar Sting who appeared as himself and was suspected of Tim Kono’s murder, anything is possible for Schumer’s time at the Arconia. Even with not much else known about these new characters, audiences can get excited to know the sophomore season will also introduce a new detective investigating Bunny’s untimely demise. Michael Rapaport steps into the role of Detective Kreps after completing four seasons on Netflix’s Atypical, and recently co-starred with Schumer on Hulu’s Life & Beth.
Aaron Dominguez returns in season two, along with Martin, Short, and Gomez, reprising his role as another one of Mabel’s childhood friends, Oscar. Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Tina Fey, and Jackie Hoffman also return as their recurring characters. Confirmed by Collider earlier this year, Nathan Lane will resume his role as Teddy Dimas, the podcast’s financial sponsor who was unmasked as a criminal himself in season one, though in what capacity and how frequent audiences will see him this season has yet to be revealed.
Created by Martin and John Hoffman, who executive produce along with Short, Gomez, Dan Fogelman and Jess Rosenthal, the first season of Only Murders In the Building was a runaway hit for the streamer, who ordered the second season mid-september. Season two will premiere this summer, with the first episode dropping June 28th, exclusively on Hulu.
