Emma Thompson stars as a talk show host in the Amazon comedy Late Night, written and produced by Mindy Kaling, who also co-stars in the film. Thomson’s performance as a mean late-night host and comedian is incredibly believable, so much so that I’m sad it’s not her real job.
In a movie about comedy, starring comedians, the bar is set pretty high to deliver on the jokes and this movie definitely does. Not only is there lots of laughs, but also quite a bit of heart. With a simple premise and layered characters, Late Night is a well written and smartly executed movie.
