Netflix’s latest superhero series is not a Marvel property, nor is it tied to a specific televised or cinematic Universe. Their new venture comes from Dark Horse and is written by Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance (yes, that My Chemical Romance).
The Umbrella Academy tells the story of 7 siblings who were adopted by a quirky billionaire when they were all magically born on the same day in 1989 to women who were not pregnant. As we learn in the first episode, six of these children revealed to have superpowers, one of which eventually disappeared and another died. The 5 accounted for children return to their childhood home, and academy, upon hearing of their father’s death.
For those not familiar with the graphic novel, the Netflix series makes sure it answers (almost) all of your questions through it’s 10-episode journey in a unique and entertaining way. If you enjoy superheroes, time-travel, and kind of out-there storytelling, The Umbrella Academy is for you.
All 10 episodes of season on drops on Netflix February 15th.
