REVIEW: Ocean's 8

Heist movie lovers rejoice! A new Ocean’s film has been added to the list.

In the latest Ocean’s, which stars Sandra Bullock as Debbie Ocean – sister to George Clooney’s Danny – a team of criminals work together to take on “an impossible heist at New York City’s yearly Met Gala.”

Like the first of the original trilogy, the film starts with Ocean being released from prison, gathering a team and preparing for a heist. This time, the entire team is female and some of them aren’t even real criminals. In fact, Debbie and Lou (Cate Blanchett) enlist the help of a fashion designer, Rose Weil (Helena Bonham Carter), to con actress Daphne Kluger (Anne Hathaway) into wearing Cartier’s Toussaint necklace – which they intend to steal.

While the men in the originals had time to bicker and don costumes (I’m looking at you Virgil and Turk), the women in 8 have a fully constructed plan and each know their part to play: from Amita (Mindy Kaling) who is the diamond expert, to Constance (Awkwafina) who has the sticky fingers, to Nine Ball (Rihanna) the masterful hacker.

If you’re in the mood for a fun heist movie, packed with jokes and wonderful actors, you don’t want to miss Ocean’s 8. Which feels like a natural addition to 11, 12, and 13. And even has a couple cameos.
