Krypton Executive Producers Cameron Welsh, David S Goyer, along with star Cameron Cuffe, and DC Entertainment CCO Geoff Johns, took to the TCA stage today for the NBC Universal winter press tour.
Krypton takes place two generations before the destruction of Superman’s home plane. The 10 part series follows Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe), the legendary Man of Steel’s grandfather, as he faces a life and death conflict – save his home planet or let it be destroyed in order to restore the fate of his future grandson. With Krypton’s leadership in disarray and the House of El ostracized, Seg tries to redeem his family’s honor and protect the ones he loves while being challenged by familiar DC characters Brainiac (Blake Ritson) and Earthly time-traveler Adam Strange (Shaun Sipos).
EPs are confident in this series, saying they have a 7-8 year plan for Krypton, and with the element of time travel (that they’re very excited about) “the door is open for anything”. Suggestions of DC characters that might appear were met with optimism due to the time travel, as well as the time frame in which the show takes place.
With many superhero shows on TV right now, the EPs claim Krypton has a different look because it’s shot in Europe instead of Vancouver (like many of the others)… but also it’s on a different planet so you won’t see city scapes.
Lastly, when it came to finding the right Seg-El, Superman’s grandfather, the EPs gave Cameron Cuffe “the talk” before giving him the role, reminding him the importance of minding “his Ps & Qs”, representing “The House of El” both on and off screen. Cuffe understands the added weight because these roles, Superman, and the symbols mean something important to the world.
