REVIEW: CBS' Bull – Starring Michael Weatherly – Midseason Review

NCIS alum Michael Weatherly has settled into his new role as the aggressive and intelligent Dr. Bull on CBS’ new hit drama, inspired by the early career or Dr. Phil McGraw.

About Bull

A drama inspired by the early career of Dr. Phil McGraw as the founder of one of the most prolific trial consulting firms of all time. Brilliant, brash and charming, Dr. Bull (Michael Weatherly) is the ultimate puppet master as he combines psychology, human intuition and high tech data to learn what makes jurors, attorneys, witnesses and the accused tick.

The midseason finale found Bull returning back to his hometown to defend an accused arsonist, giving audiences the background we wanted: Bull is from a town where your family’s reputation will haunt you forever, and his father had a reputation. This isn’t the first time we got minor backstories on the characters. We learned about Morgan’s ex in 1×6 Bedside Manner and we learned about Benny’s sister/ Bull’s ex-wife in 1×7 Too Perfect. We also got a hint into Bull’s only trial failure in 1×4 Callisto.

As the season trudges along, there are members of Bull’s team that I’m dying to know more about – Where did Bull find Cable, his badass hacking genius? And What’s the deal with Chunk – the former football player turned stylist?

I guess the real question is, will Bull ever leave the procedural formula and become a legal drama?
