REVIEW: Delivery Man starring Vince Vaughn

Vince Vaughn stars in DreamWorks’ Delivery Man, the story of an irresponsible man named David Wozniak who turned out to have fathered 533 children via sperm donation. If you plan to see Delivery Man and don’t want it spoiled then read no further, if you have no interest in seeing this movie.. well, you’re already on the right track.

DreamWorks claims that this film is an opportunity for Vince Vaughn to move away from his usual characters, in an effort to avoid type castings. Unfortunately, David Wozniak’s only difference from Jeremy Grey (Wedding Crashers) or Dave (Couples Retreat) is that Wozniak doesn’t shout and his rambling monologues are much shorter.

David decides that instead of revealing his identity to his children, which is what they’re asking for, he will take on the role of guardian angel. He begins to secretly intervene in some of their lives – which involves hanging out with his disabled son who lives in a care center… later, the children have a weekend retreat and David brings his disabled son – what kind of center allows a stranger to check out a resident?!?!! Also, something to note: yeah, sure, he’s got one chubby son, but not a single daughter of David’s is plus sized.

How I Met Your Mother star Cobie Smulders also appears in this movie as David’s fed up Police officer girlfriend – non-surprising plot twist, she’s pregnant and doesn’t want David involved because he’s unreliable and juvenile. Of course, by the time the baby comes he’s all grown up and trustworthy… also, SPOILERT, he proposes to her. The marriage proposal seems to revolve around the fact that they’re having a baby. Neither of them express any sort of love towards each other, but they agree anyway.

Delivery Man left me confused as to who this movie is meant for. The premise, I guess, appeals to children but with the humor of a 15 year old boy who has no friends… unfortunately for DreamWorks, even those loners wont want to sit through an hour and 39 minutes of this. I could also see this being marketed towards adults, but no adult (regardless of whether they have offspring) will want to sit through this either.

View at your own risk. Delivery Man opens November 22nd.
