The Saturn Awards celebrated their 52nd year next to Universal Studios Hollywood. The event was full of actors and filmmakers ready to celebrate the very best in genre entertainment, an event commemorated only by The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror since its inception in 1972. A common sentiment amongst those we spoke to on the red carpet is, how important and significant The Saturn Awards are because genre movies and shows are often overlooked.
Additionally, in light of the devastating fires and the urgent need for community support, the Academy utilized this year’s platform to provide viewers nationwide and attendees with information on how to donate and aid in the rebuilding efforts in Los Angeles.
We spoke with some of the award winners:
Chris Sanders (Director/Writer) and Jeff Hermann (Producer) Best Animated Film: The Wild Robot
Bob Gale (Writer) George Pal Memorial Award – The 40th Anniversary of Back to the Future
Harold Perrineau (Actor – ‘From’) Best Horror Television Series
Joe Port and Joe Wiseman (‘Ghosts’ – Co-Executive Producers and Showrunners) Best Genre Comedy Television Series
Dafne Keen (X-23) Best Action / Adventure Film: Deadpool & Wolverine
Check out the rest of our red carpet interviews here.
