REVIEW: The Batman – Quick Thoughts – Spoiler Free!

DC Fans have been hearing about Matt Reeves’ The Batman starring Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, and Jeffrey Wright, for a while and the wait is almost over. After a few exciting, villainously filled trailers, die-hard Batman fans will not be disappointed in Pattinson’s take on Vengeance. Here are some quick, spoiler-free, thoughts about The Batman:

  1. There’s been a lot of sexist memes over the years about Kristen Stewart’s emotionless face, but this movie proved that Pattinson is truly the one with the dead eyes. His mopey, broken Bruce is a version I don’t believe we’ve seen on the big screen before.
  2. Zoe Kravitz is a highlight of the nearly 3-hour film and I would honestly love to see a 3-hour movie about her Selina Kyle. Let it where The Batman leaves off, but give me flashbacks to how she became who she is.
  3. Paul Dano is fantastic. But that’s not a surprise if you’ve ever seen anything he’s been in. The man is underrated. Forget everything you know from Jim Carey’s Riddler, and prepare for a terrifyingly plausible criminal.
  4. The first time we see Collin Farrell’s Pinguin I sincerely forgot it was him and for a moment was confused to see Jared Leto’s Paolo Gucci in this movie.
  5. Matt Reeves created a fascinating world and provided the audience a unique view to beautifully explore it. This movie is intended to be seen on a big screen. So many shots in The Batman are absolutely gorgeous.
  6. If Reeves’ script removed all DC character names and just told the story of a wealthy orphan recluse who spent his evenings as a vigilante PI in this dystopian city, there would be no changes to the plot. Like Logan, The Batman separates itself from the superhero genre in a new and elegant way, revealing the corruption this particular city faces which holds its citizens hostage. Batman fan or not, you’re going to enjoy this film.
