REVIEW: Uncharted – Quick Thoughts – Spoiler Free!

Tom Holland stars, along with Mark Wahlberg, Antonio Banderas, and Tati Gabrielle, in the action-packed adventure movie Uncharted, adapted from the hit Playstation video game. The movie, which hits theaters this Friday, February 18th, is star-packed and exciting, but here are some quick (spoiler-free) thoughts:

  1. First and foremost, Uncharted is fun. It doesn’t require too much thinking, and it’s not very suspenseful; the twists are pretty obvious, but regardless it’s playful and an enjoyable big screen movie. It would be perfectly suited to start the summer blockbuster season.
  2. The cast is wonderful. Tom Holland really gets to show off his stunt skills (as well as his physique) while Mark Wahlberg feels right at home, almost like he thinks he’s back in The Italian Job. But the two brightest spots in the cast are Tati Gabrielle and Sophia Ali. Both women play engaging characters and stand out in a movie full of men. One can only hope they get a spin-off of their own.
  3. Most movies these days are clocking in well over two hours, and audiences are really feeling it. Uncharted lands just below 120 minutes, but the pacing and balance of action to emotion are deliberate and measured.
  4. There’s stuff for the video game lovers too. Without providing any details, there are quite a few specific nods for those in the know, while ensuring non-gamers aren’t alienated.
  5. Lastly, Uncharted is fun. There’s big screen action, tender heartfelt moments, the right amount and tone of humor, plus familiar faces and some of them in unexpected roles. Oh, and there’s even a bit of history.

If you enjoy action-comedies, heist flicks, or any of the many Indian Jones knock-offs, you’ll love Uncharted. Grab a friend and hit the theaters, you’re going to want to see these stunts on a big screen. Uncharted opens, only in theaters, this Friday, February 18th.
