The Leverage team is back!
Leverage fans have waited for nearly 9 years to see their favorite Hacker, Grifter, Thief and Hitter reunite, and the wait was well worth it! IMDb TV brought back our beloved team for an original follow-up series, Leverage: Redemption, which quickly answers lingering questions in the first episode. Specifically: What Happened to Nate? Are Hardison & Parker still together? and, Did “Leverage International” succeed?
Not only are these reveals seamlessly presented, but the entire premiere is set up for anyone unfamiliar with the franchise to jump right in. With our newest member, Harry Wilson (The Librarians alum Noah Wyle), the audience is quickly brought up to speed explaining who are these people? what’s happened in the last 8 years? and what are they up to now? For the OG fans, there are all the easter eggs and nods you could possibly want. The first two episodes don’t miss an opportunity to say all the catchphrases and do all the bits. The writers and producers clearly took our love for the series and built on what worked best, giving us the heart and comedy we expect with the modernization we deserve.
In what would serve as a two-part premiere on traditional platforms, episode 1 and 2, the team takes on a Mr. Fletcher Maxwell in a “ripped from the headlines” inspired story about the opioid epidemic. On any other show the topic might seem like a real downer, but Leverage knows how to tell a compelling and relevant story while pulling at your heartstrings and making you laugh all in 50 minutes.
In addition to “Our Mr. Wilson”, our team adds on another face: Breanna Casey (Aleyse Shannon). Breanna is Hardison’s foster sister who herself has been getting into trouble. It’s decided that the best way through her mischievous years is to join Team Leverage. While the team seemed perfect in the original series – it wasn’t very often that they sought outside help – these two additions are fantastic and provide new resources. As the short 8-episode half season continues, more layers unfold, allowing us to also dig deeper into characters we already know and love.
Rebooting a series is hard. And often unnecessary. But Leverage might be one of the only revivals to accurately execute the assignment lovingly and truthfully. In fact, this shouldn’t be called a reboot, when it’s actually just Chapter 2.
Leverage: Redemption drops 8 episodes on July 9th, only on IMDbTV
About Leverage: Redemption
In this new iteration, and new world, the Leverage crew have watched as the rich and powerful continue to take what they want without consequence. Grifter Sophie Devereaux (Gina Bellman), thief Parker (Beth Riesgraf), hitter Eliot Spencer (Christian Kane), and hacker Alec Hardison (Aldis Hodge) have watched the world change over the last eight years. Since their last job, it’s become easier – and sometimes legal – for the rich to become richer and the powerful to squash anyone who gets in their way. To address the changes in the world around them, the team finds new blood in Harry Wilson (Noah Wyle), a corporate lawyer who is looking for redemption after realizing he’d been sitting on the wrong side of the table for his entire career, and Breanna Casey (Aleyse Shannon), Hardison’s foster sister who has a knack for computers, robotics, and getting into trouble.
