The Doctor and Clara find themselves on a sinking soviet submarine during the cold war with Ser Davos Seaworth  a Russian Captain (actor Liam Cunningham) – If you haven’t yet seen ‘Cold War’ do not read any further and consider this your official SPOILER ALERT!

In an uncharacteristically boring episode of Doctor Who, Clara and The Doctor land on a sinking Russian submarine in the middle of the Cold War instead of their intended destination, Vegas. The Doctor helps the sub safely crash but is stranded on it because the TARDIS has relocated for it’s own safety. Unbeknownst to The Doctor, the Russians have found what they assumed to be a frozen mammoth – turns out it’s a Martian Ice Warrior. The Ice Warrior defrosts and, considering it’s captors hostile, decides to cleanse the Earth of humanity… how original.
The Russians, Clara, and The Doctor spend the rest of the episode trying to convince the Ice Warrior not to kill them, all while hoping not to run out of oxygen. Of course, in the end the Martians save their missing comrade and pull the crashed submarine up to the surface, saving everyone inside. yay.

Honestly, I don’t really like “filler” episodes of Doctor Who. This episode didn’t seem to further the plot of ‘Who is Clara Oswald?’ nor does it give us any information about how she’s already died twice/ seems to be “impossible”. With all the online theories going around, I don’t feel like watching episodes that don’t provide vital information.  That being said, I really hope that when the reveal takes place, there was something HUGE in this episode that I considered insignificant (Hungry like the Wolf? the sonic screwdriver? Clara singing?)

What did you think of “Cold War” – was is bland and boring or super suspenseful? Do you think this episode revealed any details about Clara? Or do you just miss Amy never staying put when The Doctor told her too? Comment below and don’t miss all new episodes of Doctor Who, Saturday nights on BBC America!

Whovian Fun Fact: This week’s monsters, the Ice Warriors, haven’t been seen on Doctor Who since 1974… so welcome back?
